US Soldiers Finish Deployment To Shemya Island After Increased Chinese, Russian Military Activity Around Alaskan ADIZ
NORAD: Previously, the average number of Russian military aircraft entering the Alaskan ADIZ was six to seven per year. Last year: 26, this year has already reached 25.
ALASKA - Around 130 U.S. soldiers have finished their deployment to Shemya Island after being deployed earlier in the month after a recent spike in Russian military aircraft breaching the Alaskan Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) following a marked increase in military activity around Alaska by Russian and Chinese forces.
U.S. soldiers from Washington, Alaska, and Hawaii who are a part of the 11th Airborne Division and the 1st and 3rd Multi Domain Task Forces were deployed to the island, according to a statement from the U.S. Army, as well as 11th Airborne spokesman Sgt. 1st Class Michael Sword.
According to NORAD, the average number of Russian military aircraft entering the Alaskan ADIZ previously was six to seven per year. Last year the number jumped to 26, and this year has already seen 25.
