U.S. Pauses $69 Billion Ukraine Aid to Prioritize Peaceful Resolution of Russia Conflict
Washington: "Effective March 3, 2025, we are pausing and reviewing our aid to ensure that it is contributing to a solution," and adds, "The President has been clear that he is focused on peace."
WASHINGTON—On March 4th, 2025, the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs released a fact sheet detailing America’s extensive security cooperation with Ukraine amid Russia’s ongoing assault on the country. The move signals a pivotal shift in policy under President Trump.
Although some reports on social media say the U.S. is permanently cutting aid to Ukraine, the fact sheet says, "Effective March 3, 2025, we are pausing and reviewing our aid to ensure that it is contributing to a solution," and adds, "The President has been clear that he is focused on peace".
Since Russia’s initial invasion of Ukraine in 2014, and especially after its full-scale assault in 2022, the U.S. has committed over $69 billion in military aid, equipping Ukraine with advanced weaponry like Patriot air defenses, HIMARS rocket systems, and Abrams tanks to counter Moscow’s forces.
As of March 3rd, 2025, the Trump administration has paused this aid for review, emphasizing a new priority: leveraging U.S. influence to end the conflict through diplomacy rather than prolonged military support.
The fact sheet posted by the Department of State outlines the scope of past assistance, the contributions of nearly 50 allies, and the strategic pivot toward peace, reflecting a critical juncture in U.S.-Ukraine relations as of March 6th, 2025.
