US Announces Deployment Of THAAD Missile System And Their Crew To Bolster Israel's Air Defenses Following Missile Attacks By Iran, Also Announces Munitions Sales To UAE
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is expected to receive 2,503 AGM-114R3 Hellfire II missiles valued at approximately $655 million, three of which are test missiles.
PENTAGON - The Department of Defense has announced the deployment of the Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) battery, along with the U.S. military personnel (crew) to operate the system to bolster Israel's air defenses following Iran's missile attacks against the nation.
THAAD Information from the Missile Defense Agency: "The Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, or THAAD, element gives the Ballistic Missile Defense System a globally transportable, rapidly deployable ability to intercept and destroy ballistic missiles inside or outside the atmosphere during their final, or terminal, phase of flight.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is expected to receive 2,503 AGM-114R3 Hellfire II missiles valued at approximately $655 million, three of which are test missiles. This includes support and test equipment, spare parts for replacement, and software to use the equipment.
Defense Security Cooperation Agency: "The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has requested to buy two thousand five hundred three (2,503) AGM-114R3 Hellfire II missiles (3 for lot acceptance testing)."
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency has also announced the possible foreign military sale to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia of AGM-114R3 Hellfire II Missiles, ammunition for artillery systems, machine guns, and tanks, AIM-9X Block II sidewinder missile, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) the possible foreign military sale of GMLRS and ATACMS munitions.
