Tensions Continue To Mount In The Middle East, US Degrades ISIS Capabilities In Syria, Puts Troops On Heightened Readiness, Iran Vows Revenge
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the killing of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Deputy Commander Abbas Nilforoushan “will not go unanswered”.
LEBANON/YEMEN - Israel has carried out another airstrike in the Yemen port city of Hodeidah and has “eliminated” Hezbollah leadership in Lebanon, including the group’s leader Hassan Nasrallah, as tensions continue to mount in the Middle East and Iran has vowed revenge on Israel in retaliation for the killing of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Deputy Commander Abbas Nilforoushan.
According to the Israeli military it carried out, “A large-scale air operation in Yemen: Dozens of Air Force aircraft, including fighter jets, refueling and intelligence planes, attacked about 1,800 km from the Israeli border, targets that are used by the Houthi terrorist regime in the areas of Ras Issa and Hodeidah in Yemen.”
The Houthi’s Health Ministry reported that four people were killed during the Yemen strikes by the Israeli military, and 29 were wounded. During strikes on Lebanon by the Israeli military over the last 24 hours, 105 people were reported by Lebanon’s Health Ministry to have been killed.
After Israel began carrying out widespread air strikes in Lebanon targeting Hezbollah leadership a week ago, 492 people were killed within a single day, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, which claimed 35 children and 58 women were among the dead, though it did not report how many of the dead were combatants and how many were civilians.
The numbers that were given by the Ministry make that day the deadliest in the country since the Lebanon's 1975-90 civil war, and the deadliest conflict between Lebanon and Israel since the 2006 war. It also reported that an additional 1,645 people were wounded in the strikes.
On Sunday the Israeli military said that a strike carried out on Saturday had killed Nabil Kaouk, who was the deputy head of Hezbollah’s Central Council, one day after the Hezbollah had confirmed Nasrallah’s death in another strike in Beirut.
Lebanon’s government says that about 250,000 Lebanese are currrently in shelters, and around 100,000 are with friends or relatives due to the strikes.
U.S. forces also carried out two "targeted strikes" in Syria against leadership and operatives of ISIS and the Al Qaeda affiliate, Hurras al-Din, killing 37 terrorist operatives, including multiple senior leaders of the ISIS and Al Qaeda terrorist organizations.
