Temporary Israel/Hamas Ceasefire Reaches Fifth Day, US Holds Talks For Extension, Sends Supplies To Gaza
Local authorities in Gaza have reported that the number of Palestinians killed as a result of attacks on the Gaza Strip by Israel now exceeds 15,000.
ISRAEL/GAZA - As the temporary ceasefire between Israel and the Hamas terrorist organization reaches its fifth day, CIA Director William J. Burns has traveled to Qatar for talks to extend the temporary ceasefire, and to reach a deal for additional exchanges of hostages held by Hamas for prisoners held in Israel. US Central Command ships humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
Current Death Toll As A Result Of The Conflict
While the Israeli death toll stands at around 1,200, with the Hamas terrorist organization still holding about 170 hostages in Gaza, local authorities in Gaza have reported that the number of Palestinians killed as a result of attacks on the Gaza Strip by Israel now exceeds 15,000, with around 7,000 people still buried underneath building rubble.
Over 1.7 million people have been displaced in Gaza as a result of the conflict. The Israeli military has reported Hamas militants use civilians as human shields, launching their attacks and carrying out base operations within civilian locations such as houses, hospitals, and religious buildings.
The number of dead reported by Gazan authorities include about 4,700 women and children according to the Gaza-based Government Media Office in a statement. The statement claimed that 207 of the dead included medical staffers, 26 members of civil defense rescue teams, and 70 journalists.
The Media Office also said that there have been about 36,000 Palestinians injured, 75% of which were women and children.
The statement said around 50,000 houses were completely destroyed, and about 240,000 houses were damaged severely, with 88 completely destroyed mosques, and 174 mosques and 3 churches partially destroyed.
