State media cited Borisov as saying, “The Sarmat strategic complex has been put on combat duty," during the "Share your knowledge" marathon.
It was previously assumed that the missile system would be put on combat duty at the end of 2022 after Russian President Vladimir Putin stated in June of last year that the new generation of Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles would be deployed for combat duty "in the near future".
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu reported in December of 2022 that the deployment of the Sarmat had begun, and said that the missile system would be ready for service in 2023.
