SOUTH CHINA SEA - The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has reported another incident involving Chinese Coast Guard (CCG) and Chinese Maritime Militia (CMM) vessels harassing and blocking a Philippine supply vessel at the disputed Second Thomas Shoal, including deploying a water cannon for the second time against one of its vessels in an attempt to alter its course.
The statement by the Philippine Coast Guard said that the PCG and CCG vessels executed “dangerous maneuvers” in an attempt to impede or obstruct a routine resupply and rotation mission to the BRP Sierra Madre (LS 57) at the Ayungin Shoal, which is also known as the Second Thomas Shoal, Bãi Cỏ Mây, or Rén'ài Jiāo.
The Chinese government released a statement on the incident saying that the vessel “trespassed” into its waters without the approval of the Chinese government on Monday, referring to its internationally unrecognized 9-dash-line.
