North Korea Says It's Speeding Up War Preparations
North Korea had previously claimed in August that "unprecedented large-scale thermonuclear war is approaching the Korean Peninsula".
PYONGYANG - During North Korea's 9th Plenum of 8th Worker's Party of Korea (WPK) Central Committee, the country's leader Kim Jong Un addressed the "direction of struggle for 2024" during which he set forth goals to "further accelerate the war preparations" including "nuclear weapons and civil defense" due to the "grave political and military situation in the Korean Peninsula".
North Korean state media cited "confrontation moves" by the United States and South Korea, which it said is "unprecedented in history" and said that the country would work toward developing and expanding relations and strategic cooperation with "anti-imperialist independent countries" and dynamically wage the "anti-imperialist" joint action and struggle on an international scale under the "rapidly changing world geo-political situation".
