North Korea Says It Test-Fired New IRBM Hwasongpho-16B
North Korea said it tested the new-type IRBM missile: Hwasongpho-16B a day after both South Korea and Japan reported the country test-fired what was believed to be an IRBM.
PYONGYANG - North Korea said that it test-fired its new hypersonic tipped solid-fueled intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) Hwasongpho-16B, a day after both South Korea and Japan reported the country test-fired what was believed to be an IRBM.
North Korea Fires Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile Off Its West Coast
TOKYO/SEOUL - North Korea launched at least one ballistic missile from its west coast with a maximum altitude of about 100 kilometers (62 miles), according to both the South Korean military and Japanese Self-Defense Forces. The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff said it presumes the missile is a medium-range ballistic missile and reported that it flew about 800 kilometers (497 miles) before it landed in the Sea of Japan (also called the East Sea by South Korea).
North Korea released a statement that said that on April 2nd it tested "a new-type intermediate-range solid-fueled ballistic missile loaded with newly-developed hypersonic glide vehicle, on the spot".
After North Korea tested the missile, the United States, South Korea, and Japan carried out joint aerial drills in the region which included B-52 bombers, according to South Korean media.
