Netanyahu: Israel On High State Of Readiness. Iran: Assassination In Tehran Not Possible Without US Authorization
Israel also carried out a targeted strike in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon on the commander it says was responsible for the Majdal Shams attack and the killing of Israeli civilians.
TEHRAN/JERUSALEM - Israeli Prime Minister Bejamin Netanyahu said that Israel is on a high state of readiness after Iran blamed Jerusalem for carrying out an assassination on Ismail Haniyeh, the former Prime Minister of the Palestinian National Authority, and leader of the Hamas terrorist organization in Tehran on July 31st, 2024.
Although Israel has not claimed responsibility for the assassination within Iran's capital, both Iranian officials and the Hamas claim that Israel was behind it, and was also the reported assessment by U.S. officials cited by the New York Times.
The news agency reported that an explosive device was smuggled into a guesthouse in Tehran where Ismail Haniyeh was staying around two months ago and was detonated remotely once there was confirmation that he had entered his room there.
The former Prime Minister of the Palestinian National Authority had been visiting Tehran to attend the inauguration of the new Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Iran’s IRGC-affiliated media Fars news agency said of the New York Times report, “These lies are being propagated while the results of the experts' investigation indicate that Haniyeh was struck by a projectile, in which involvement of the Zionist regime cannot be ruled out”.
