Israel Strikes "Deep Inside Lebanon" For First Time, Targets Hezbollah Terrorist Organization
The strikes came after Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced that Israel would be increasing its strikes on Hezbollah locations in response to its daily attacks on northern Israel.
LEBANON - The Israeli military has targeted “deep inside Lebanon”, targeting Hezbollah locations in the eastern part of the country for the first time since the conflict started in October of last year, according to its military, as well as Lebanese officials.
According to Lebanese officials, the northeastern city of Baalbek was struck targeting “Hezbollah terror targets deep inside Lebanon”. The Hezbollah terrorist organization claimed that two members of its group were killed in strikes.
The Israeli military said it struck Hezbollah positions in Bekaa Valley, near Baalbek in retaliation for the group firing a surface-to-air missile at one of its drones.
Striking deep inside Lebanese territory signifies an escalation in the fighting between the Israeli military and the Hezbollah terrorist organization located within Lebanon and risks an overall escalation of the current conflict.
In addition to strikes in northern Lebanon, Israel also targeted a vehicle in the southern part of the country, near the two country’s shared border killing a Hezbollah field commander, according to the group.
The Israeli military said it killed Hezbollah commander Hassan Salami, who it said was responsible for carrying out rocket attacks on northern Israel.
Israel Defense Forces statement: “ELIMINATED: Hassan Hossein Salami, the Hezbollah terrorist responsible for the Hajir region. He was part of Hezbollah’s Nasser Unit and commanded recent Hezbollah terrorist activities, including anti-tank missile launches toward Israel”.
