Israel Announces The "Elimination" Of Senior Hezbollah Military Commander In Beirut, Lebanon As Tensions Escalate
Israeli Military: The IDF eliminated Hezbollah's most senior military commander and head of its Strategic Unit, Fuad Shukr "Sayyid Muhsan":
LEBANON - Multiple countries have urged their citizens to leave Lebanon and avoid the country as tensions escalate between Israel and the Iranian-backed Hezbollah within Lebanon to the north.
Update: Israel has carried out a targeted strike in Beirut on the commander it says is responsible for the Majdal Shams attack and killing of Israeli civilians, Hezbollah's most senior military commander and head of its Strategic Unit, Fuad Shukr "Sayyid Muhsan". Beirut is Lebanon's capital, and largest city in the country.
IDF: “ELIMINATED: Fuad Shukr "Sayyid Muhsan", Hezbollah’s Most Senior Military Commander and Hassan Nasrallah’s Right-Hand Man Shukr has directed Hezbollah's attacks on the State of Israel since October 8th, and he was the commander responsible for the murder of the 12 children in Majdal Shams in northern Israel on Saturday evening, as well as the killing of numerous Israelis and foreign nationals over the years.
He was also responsible for the majority of Hezbollah's most advanced weaponry, including precise-guided missiles, cruise missiles, anti-ship missiles, long-range rockets and UAVs.”
The Hezbollah organization has now confirmed that Fouad Shukur was killed during the Israeli strike in Beirut Tuesday amid speculation that he had not been killed.
Israel has accused the Hezbollah terrorist organization of carrying out a rocket attack on a soccer field in Majdal Shams located in northern Israel which killed 12 Druze children and adolescents.
Among the countries calling for citizens to evacuate Lebanon are:
United States
Britain
Germany
France
Rena Bitter, assistant secretary for consular affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Beirut said that U.S. citizens in Lebanon should “create a crisis plan of action and leave before the crisis begins".
Bitter added, "We recommend U.S. citizens develop a crisis plan of action and leave before a crisis begins.
Regularly scheduled transportation is always the best option while local communications and transportation infrastructure are still intact and operating normally".
Germany has also told its citizens to leave the country as soon as possible, adding that travel by air to/from Lebanon could be shut down soon if the conflict continues to escalate.
There is a general consensus among researchers and think tanks that a large retaliatory strike from Israel is coming, though how large the strike will be, and whether or not Israel will carry out a limited strike in an attempt to contain further escalation is unknown.
