USS Abraham Lincoln carrier group expected to relieve the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier group currently in the region, additional forces being sent to mitigate the possibility of regional escalation.
TEHRAN - Iran’s Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani says that the country will use its “legitimate and inherent right to defend its security, sovereignty and territorial integrity” which it says is aimed at creating a deterrence against Israel’s “aggressive measures” after the assassination of Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in Beirut and Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran last week.
Kani also said that Israel should receive a “decisive response” for its “brutality”, according to the Iranian state-run news agency IRNA which reported that the response would be intended to send a message to Israel that “brutality has a heavy price”.
The diplomat stated, “The Islamic Republic of Iran will undoubtedly use its legitimate and inherent right to defend its security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity with the aim of creating deterrence against the aggressive actions of the Zionist regime and the continuation of security and stability in West Asia”.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said in a video message, "I came this morning to closely examine the deployment of the forces, we are prepared in a wide deployment in defense and attack - the enemy will pay a heavy price if he dares to attack us."
