Maui Police Chef John Pelletier said at a news conference that during the September 11th attacks thousands of people were never recovered. “We don’t have that type of devastation ... but we have an entire town that’s destroyed. We’re going to do everything we can to get that right,” he stated.
He added that the county has plans to release a list of those who are still missing in the coming days, once it’s been better “scrubbed”. He added that with some of the missing they only have a first name written down. “There is no secrecy. We want to make sure we’re as respectful as we can”.
