First Deaths Since Red Sea Attacks By Iranian-Backed Houthis Began, US Conducts Self-Defense Strikes
The incident marks the first non-Houthi fatalities since the Houthis began their attacks on merchant vessels in the region.
RED SEA - Three people were killed and at least four injured after Iranian-backed Houthis launched a missile attack from Yemen against the Barbados-flagged and Liberian owned hulk carrier vessel True Confidence as it was transiting the Gulf of Aden around 50 nautical miles off Yemen’s Port of Aden.
The Iranian-backed Houthis have claimed responsibility for the attack saying that they had issued a warning to the vessel to leave the area. The incident marks the first non-Houthi fatalities since the Houthis began their attacks on merchant vessels in the region.
The Houthis added that vessels in the region should “respond to the calls of the Yemeni naval forces and all crews of the targeted ships must quickly depart after the first strike".
The Houthis also said their attacks “will continue to fulfill their religious, moral and humanitarian duties in assisting the oppressed Palestinian people".
“Their operations in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea will not stop until the aggression ceases and the siege on the Palestinian people in [the] Gaza Strip is lifted," the group added.
