CDC - The United States. is currently in a fentanyl and opioid crisis. According to the Centers for Disease Control Over 100,000 Americans died of drug overdoses in 2022. Although the number barely exceeded 2021 overdose deaths, 2022 set a record for the highest number of deaths from drug overdoses since record-keeping began.
From 2011 to 2016 alone deaths from the drug fentanyl increased by 1,000 percent, according to numbers given by the CDC, with 1,600 deaths from the drug in 2011 and 2012, then increasing to 1,900 deaths in 2013. In 2016 fentanyl deaths rose to 18,335.
