FBI Director On Current Threat Level: So Many Threats Elevated, "Blinking Lights Everywhere"
While the director urged lawmakers to renew Section 702 saying America is not safe without it, it has been used to gather information on American citizens under certain conditions and abused.
WASHINGTON - FBI Director Christopher Wray testified at a United States Senate Judiciary Committee hearing (hearing audio attached) and said that while during his career he's seen individual threats at high levels, he's never seen a time where "all the threats or so many of the threats are all elevated" all at exactly the same time, adding that he is seeing "blinking lights everywhere".
Wray urged lawmakers to renew the FBI's ability to gather electronic data under Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, or FISA before the law expires at the end of 2023, saying that allowing it to expire would be tantamount to "unilateral disarmament", but it has been abused and led to information being collected on American citizens.
