BEIJING - The Chinese embassy to Japan said that NATO's plan to expand to the Asia Pacific region violates rules set by the United Nations and that it hopes Japan refrains from actions that undermine trust among countries in the region during its interaction with the alliance.
China did not react well to a NATO communique earlier this month at Vilnius, which for the first time called China a security challenge to the alliance, saying that Beijing's "ambitions and coercive policies" are a significant challenge to the alliances "interests, security and values".
