Chemical Oil Tanker Targeted By Multiple Projectiles Near Yemen, USS Carney Comes To Vessel's Aid
The UKMTO says that authorities are currently investigating the incidents.
YEMEN -A Cayman Islands-flagged chemical and oil tanker has been attacked by multiple projectiles off the Yemen coast at 9 a.m. in the morning local time, according to officials who said that the USS Carney then came to the aid of the tanker.
The report of the attack on the "Swan Atlantic" tanker comes after the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) released a statement saying that there were multiple incidents in the area, including one "possible explosion".
Although the Iranian-backed Houthis have not taken responsibility for the attack, they have done so for previous recent attacks, stating that they are targeting vessels linked to Israel.
Multiple Incidents Reported By UKMTO In Waters Near Yemen, Including "Possible Explosion"
The UKMTO has reported multiple incidents on December 18th, 2023, including a possible explosion "in the water 2 nautical miles off one of the vessel’s quarters".
The statement says that authorities are currently investigating the incidents. Incidents have been reported:
24 nautical miles southeast of Mokha Port, Yemen
30 nautical miles northwest of Mokha Port, Yemen
30 nautical miles south of Port Mokha, Yemen (possible explosion)
63 nautical miles northwest of Djibouti
