After reports of the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua (TdA) gang taking over parts of Aurora, Colorado last year, including running apartment complexes in the city, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has now arrested over 100 members of the gang, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
In August of last year the Aurora Police Department said they had created a special task force to investigate growing concerns about the gang and had been looking into reports.
Now, ICE & its partners, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration Headquarters, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Headquarters, and U.S. Marshals Service Headquarters are in Aurora, Colorado "to remove this very real public safety threat."
Last year the Aurora Police Department had said they were aware that TdA had been operating in the area, but said that the influence of the gang remained "isolated" and said they weren't aware that the gang had taken over apartment buildings.
While speaking on Fox News at the time, Aurora Council Member Danielle Jurinsky said, "We currently have entire complexes under gang control — complexes where staff have been beaten up, they've been threatened, their families have been threatened [and] complexes where there are no staff left on the property".
